Austin Speed Shop's 1932 Ford Hill Country Flyer Roadster

The May edition of the California Car Cover catalog featured a custom 1932 Ford Roadster built by the team at Austin Speed Shop.  The '32 Ford was brought out to Southern California this winter to complete for the title of America's Most Beautiful Roadster at the prestigious Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, Ca. Though it did not win the award, the Hill Country Flyer got a lot of attention thanks to its incredible details and beautiful paint work. Thank you to photographer Tim Sutton for supplying some great photos of this vehicle.

Gary Howard applied the custom mixed "sunrise cinnamon" paint that really shines when out in the sun.
1950 Pontiac taillights were installed in the rear of the '32.

The Hill Country Flyer features Rocket Racing wheels with custom fitted Veda Caps.

Under the hood of the roadster is a 1957 Chrysler Hemi 392 engine built by Billy Cockrell.

The interior of the Hill Country Flyer was designed by E.Black Designs and built by Cato's Custom Upholstery. It features custom made seats and a Johnsons Hot Rod Shop steering wheel. The dashboard was custom built by Austin Speed Shop using a 1946 Chrysler gauge cluster.

Austin Speed Shop outfitted the roadster with a custom nerf bar.

Of course, we had to show off just one photo of the roadster covered in a custom California Car Cover. Glad we could help keep the Hill Country Flyer clean with one of our Plushweave car covers until it was ready to be unveiled at the Grand National Roadster Show.

2017 Grand National Roadster Show Photo Highlights

The 2017 winner of the AMBR Award was this 1936 Packard Roadster built by the team at Hollywood Hot Rods.
The Grand National Roadster Show took place in Pomona, Ca last weekend and it attracted 1,000s of classic car enthusiasts to Southern California. This annual event is now in its 68th year and didn't show any signs of slowing down. The Pomona Fairplex was packed on Saturday with enthusiasts who couldn't wait to see the contenders for the America'a Most Beautiful Roadster Award.

The California Car Cover Crew was on hand all weekend talking car care and of course, taking photos of the incredible vehicles on display.

A few more of the competitors for the AMBR Trophy are shown above. A killer roadster pickup from Goolsby Customs and a signature Rick Dore coachbuilt roadster.

Our friends from Brizio Street Rods always bring some cool hot rods to the Grand National Roadster Show.

The Suede Palace is home to some of the finest traditional rods and customs at the event. Here are some photos of just a few of them.

One of the most popular exhibits at the show was the Tr-Five building to celebrate 60 years of the 1957 Chevrolet. If you love the 1955-57 bowties, this was the place to be.

Plenty of vintage race cars and dragsters were on display too.

Custom paint on a few Chevy lowriders in another building.

Our friends at SIC Chops brought our their custom Suburban that was turning heads at SEMA back in November.

In building 4 were all the contenders for the AMBR Trophy. The builders all took different approaches to their roadsters and it shows here. All the roadsters were incrediblly detailed and well built.

2016 Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, Ca

Winner of the 2016 AMBR Trophy.

The Grand National Roadster Show kicks off the major car show season for the new year. The 2016 GNRS featured 100's of classics and customs on display at the Pomona Fairplex. The car show attracts some of the finest creations to Southern California. The top prize of the weekend is the presentation of the annual America's Most Beautiful Roadster award, which was won by Terri and Darryl Hollenbeck.

The California Car Cover Crew was in town for the weekend as usual to enjoy the festivities and talk car care with our friends and colleagues.

Our friends at Hollywood Hot Rods brought out a pair of roadsters to compete for the AMBR.

There is always one hall at the GNRS dedicated to speed and it always features a great group of land speed cars from Bonneville and El Mirage.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the California Car Cover booth and said hello during the Grand National Roadster Show. The weather wasn't great all weekend, but we had a good time seeing some friends out at the Fairplex.
