Monterey Car Week Day by Day Highlights-Thursday, August 17th Mecum, Russo and Steele, and Worldwide

The California Car Cover Crew spent a few days with customers in the Monterey Bay area for the annual Car Week. This week attracts 1,000s of auto enthusiasts to the central coast for a week of everything car related. Rallies, auctions, car shows and concours were taking place daily all over town. It was not physically possible to attend every event, but we tried to attend as many events as we could. Here are some highlights from Thursday. Stops for the day included visits to the auctions of Mecum, Russo and Steele, plus Worldwide Auctioneers.

1963 Volkswagen 23 Window Samba Bus

Our first stop when we arrived in Monterey was the Mecum Auction. This daytime auction always attracts 100's of incredible cars and tons of spectators. The large venue adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Resort allows for easy browsing or investigating of the vehicles up for sale last week.

1968 Jeep Wagoneer Custom Special

The "star cars" for the auction were part of a special display just outside the auction tents. These included limited production exotics, prototypes and historic racing events.

A special tent was used to display a number of high performance exotics up for sale like the Ferrari and Koenigsegg.

The large auction tents was filled with premium cars and tons of spectators.

From the Mecum Auction it was off to see our friends over at Russo and Steele. The Russo and Steele auction in the round format lets attendees get up close to the cars and the action. The company always has a nice variety of muscle cars, exotics, and classics. We even ran into a few customers under the tent who were there looking for a nice value. The Russo and Steele auction takes place next the the historic Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. This is a convenient location to be in the middle of the action all week, plus is close to plenty of hotels and restaurants when the auction action ends each night.

The Worldwide Auctioneers were a first time participant at Monterey and they brought out some significant automobiles to their Pacific Grove Auction. It was our fist time at one of their events, but it was a nice mix of rare European and American automobiles.
