This past weekend was the Goodguys 12th Annual Del Mar Nationals in Del Mar, Ca. The event brings people and cars from all over the western states to San Diego.
The California Car Cover Crew was on hand to talk car covers and car care with locals, so I drove down to help out the staff on Saturday. It was cool and misty for much of day, but everyone made the best of it.
The Del Mar Nationals are held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds which is a nice venue. It has plenty of parking and a horse racing track on site. Though no racing was going on last weekend, it provided a nice setting for all the classics. Above was the Woodie Corral at the entrance to the racetrack.
Nice custom interior in a Chevy.
The show attracts a few thousand cars from all over the western states.
There were plenty of eye catching customs, like this Chevy, all over the fairgrounds.
1957 Chevy Convertible.
Copper Custom
Purple Hot Rod Hauler
A clean Chevy El Camino, just like the one we featured on our April 2012 catalog cover.
Chevy Pickup interior.
Inside the main hall were quite a few award winning cars, including some I had not seen at any shows yet this year.
1960 Edsel Convertible
A little hot rodder and Lakers fan. This kid is off to a good start.
Custom Chevy.
The Goodguys West Coast Custom of the Year was on display at the show. You could not miss the candy paint job.
The main drag.
There were quite a few nostalgia dragsters on hand. A few times a day the owners and crew of the cars would fire them up during a Cackle Fest.
We had a custom Ford F-150 owned by one of our local customers in our booth all weekend to show off a custom car cover, though most people wanted to see the truck like this.
1935 Ford Coupe
The next day the sun came out which made it a beautiful day in San Diego. I cruised a few minutes down the road to the 8th Annual La Jolla Concours. La Jolla is a great little beach town and the show starts downtown and works its way down to the coast. There were a variety of classic American and European cars on display. It was a different scene that at the Goodguys Show on Saturday, but there were plenty of beautiful cars everywhere no matter the make or model.
There was a section reserved for American muscle, which featured a clean Chevelle, Impala and Barracuda amongst others.
The custom wrapped Bugatti attracted people all day.
Plymouth Barracuda
Mercedes Convertible
There were plenty of Packard automobiles, including this 1940 160 Super 8 Business Coupe.

The Concours attracted a lot of people to the show. For more information on the event, please visit their website.
