National Collector Car Weekend 2012

National Collector Car Day was this past Friday, July 13th, so there were a lot of automotive activities going on all over the country. I was able to make it out to a few events and here are some photo highlights.

Friday night I drove down to El Segundo for the Hot Rod Magazine relaunch party. The magazine is getting a new look with a lot of new and interactive content. There were some cool cars on display. Here are some photos from the show I made with Instagram. Are you are Instagram? If so, follow along with me (Tony DeFrank) and calcarcover to get cool photos from car events all over the country on your smart phone.

I was a big fan of the Icon Bronco at the show. This retro styled "new" Bronco is really cool. The Hot Rod Magazine event gave me a chance to catch up with some friends and colleagues at various automotive magazines.

Saturday afternoon, it was off to Thousand Oaks. A few local car clubs and companies hosted a National Collector Car Day Show in the parking lot of MB2 go carts in Thousand Oaks. It was a laid back event that attracted a few hundred cars from Ventura County. California Car Cover was one of the event supporters and sponsors.

The show attracted a lot of people and cars. The event was free for spectators, plus no charge for car owners either. The California Car Cover Crew and I were on hand talking car care and custom fit car covers. We were also promoting our upcoming Summer Cruise Nights at our store.

The highlight of the afternoon was a set by The Tokens. This oldies band who had a handful of top hits, did a great job entertaining the crowd with their own music, plus played covers of a variety of popular oldies.

Late in the day, the event promoters passed out raffle prizes to a number of lucky attendees and held a pin-up contest. It featured some local beauties with vintage style. As the sun went down the show ended and we called it a night after a fun afternoon in Thousand Oaks.

Horsepower for an Hour was broadcasting from the show.

I had Sunday off so I cruised over to Super Car Sunday in Woodland Hills, Ca in my Chevy Nova to pass out some fliers for this week's Summer Cruise Night. Here are some photos and Instagram pics from SCS.

I parked my Nova at the show and another cool Nova pulled up next to me. Are you a fan of Novas? If so, hopefully you can make it out to our Nova/Chevelle event in October.

Summer and Fall Show Lineup at California Car Cover

The rest of the year is a busy one at California Car Cover. Next week, we kick off our first of three Summer Cruise Nights at CCC. On Wednesday, July 18th, cruise on over to our store in Chatsworth, Ca for a get together with fellow hot rod and muscle car enthusiasts. We are hosting three of these events this year. There will be something different at each of them, plus great raffle prizes from our friends at Battery Tender, Shop-Vac, Detail Pro, Mr. Horsepower and many others. Hopefully you can make it out to one (or all) of them. More detail can be found on our Facebook page. The other dates for the Summer Cruise Nights are August 15th and September 19th.
In the fall, we will have our annual Parts Exchange and Parking Lot Sale. It will be the 4th year for having this show and it is a lot of fun. While attendees clean out their garage looking for old parts they don't need, we clear the warehouse of discontinued and seasonal merchandise and put it on sale. Stop by California Car Cover on the morning of Saturday, Sept 15th to swap parts, eat a doughnut and socialize with fellow auto enthusiasts. See the flier for hours and exchange space details.

The last events of the year at California Car Cover are a pair of Chevy shows in October. After the great time we had at our Camaro event, we thought we would host some more classic bowties in our parking lot.

On Saturday, October 6th, we will have a Tri-Five Chevy show at our store. The event is open to all classic 1955-57 Chevy cars, trucks and wagons. It should be a great event thanks to all the support from local Chevy clubs.
The last show of the year will be a Chevy Nova and Chevelle show. I am a big fan of the Chevy Nova and look forward to ending our car show season with a Nova event. We will have raffle prizes and a local food truck on hand serving lunch. As always, our Saturday car shows are free admission for car owners and attendees.

Besides hosting events at California Car Cover, our staff is on the road year round attending auto events all over the country. Check out our website to see where will be next.

July 2012 Catalog Cover Car: 1956 Chevy Nomad

Talk about a perfect classic car for the summer months. This 1956 Chevy Nomad has plenty of space to stash everything for a trip to the beach, plus plenty of cruising power when you get out on the highway.

Special thank you to Peter VanderBurgh for letting us come and take photos of his Tangelo orange Nomad for the cover of the July 2012 California Car Cover catalog. When he is not out surfing, Peter enjoys cruising his Chevy to local hot rod events on the weekend.

The car has custom touches, such as the shaved door handles and bumper, plus a 510 hp 454 big block engine under the hood.

Recessed Hood Bird

White leather seats, leather head liner and a custom center console highlight the interior. The dashboard has custom gauges.

Peter wanted to mention the staff at Bone Fabrication in Camarillo, Ca for the metal work and JB Custom Interiors for the stitching. Special thanks also goes out to Mike Christianson.

Check out the catalog cover below. If you have not received it in the mail, yet you can always view the e-catalog online. Or you can sign up to receive our catalog in the mail, here.
